Following the October Revolution that overthrew the Russian Republic, the Soviet Union was established by the Communist Celebration of the Soviet Union. On 18 October 1936, Hitler named Göring as Plenipotentiary of the Four 12 months Plan, meant to hurry up rearmament. They first sent troops to occupy the demilitarized Rhineland in 1936, then annexed Austria and Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia in 1938.
